Paperpots

The Greenplug is a paperpot: an airy growing substrate held together by a cellulose skin. The porous skin can easily be penetrated by roots and dissolves after rooting. The Greenplug has proven to be successful in propagation through seed, cuttings and tissue culture and is applied in the cultivation of cut flowers, potted plants, bedding plants and tree nursery stock. We can deliver the paperpots with a cutting hole or a seeding bed. Together with our client we choose the best combination of: growing substrate, type of skin, size of paperpot, tray en transport.

Production of the paperpots is done by our advanced, fully automated production lines. Because of the outstanding quality of the Greenplug growers get a high success rate on cuttings and seedlings. Plants in the Greenplug are homogenous and grow fast and evenly.

The Greenplug retains its shape well, allowing various efficient forms of automation processes, like sorting, transplanting and potting.

Growing substrate

Depending on the crop, together with our client we choose the best growing substrate. Aspects like type of peat, fractions, the quantity of perlite, vermiculite, clay, coco-peat, (if requested biological) fertilizer and moisture percentage will be considered.

Type of skin

For Green Products exclusively developed biodegradable materials:

SV - rapidly degradable: degradable in approximately 1 month. This fast degradable high quality skin is very suitable for bedding plants.

MV - medium degradable: degradable in 2 to 6 months. This very open skin is especially suitable for cut flowers and potted plants.

LV - slowly degradable: starts degrading after 6 months. Mainly used in tree nursery stock, and also very suitable for paperpots with long distance destinations.

On your request other materials can be used.

Size of paperpots

Greenplugs are standard available with a diameter of 13, 18, 20 and 28 millimeters. In each diameter different length sizes are possible, varying from 22 to even up to 120 millimeters.

Trays

The right combination of plug size and type of tray is essential for optimum results. Depending on the crop to be raised, density etcetera, we are happy to advise you on the tray to use. Our production lines are able to fill almost every type of tray.

We have several types of tray in stock. You can also deliver your trays to us. If styrofoam trays are delivered clean to us, we refill them. On your request we store your clean trays.

Transport

The Greenplugs are packed in trays or loose in boxes (bulk) for long distance destinations. These ‘boxed’ paperpots are, after a long journey of very good quality.

The amount of paperpots packed in a box depends on the size of the Greenplug.

E.g. one pallet contains 150.000 paperpots with a diameter of 20 millimeter (20ft container: 1,5 million paperpots). When a diameter of 13 millimeter is used the amount will be 325.000 paperpots on one pallet (20ft container: 3,25 million).

By using the smallest possible diameter for a paperpot savings on transport can be made, also after rooting.
